Our Story
As 2021 drew to a close, our five board members saw an opportunity in Tennessee's conservative policy space. While deeply grateful for the work of groups like Beacon Center, AFP, and NFIB, they saw an opening for a reliable Tennessee organization that was free from the constraints of a national policy agenda -- and could lobby social issues as well as fiscal ones. They wanted to leverage pre-existing relationships with conservative legislators and provide them with supporting research, policy input, and tailored legislation to move Tennessee toward freedom. And so, a 501(c)4 was born.

We love Tennessee. It’s a place to build families, communities, businesses, and long-lasting institutions because it’s guarded by a respect for law & order and still prioritizes freedom and individual rights. The Tennessee Freedom Initiative is born out of a knowledge that our state is an island of freedom worth protecting and cultivating. We build relationships with lawmakers and like-minded advocacy groups, craft government-limiting legislation, and advance the freedoms of Tennessee’s citizens. We lobby because it’s one of the most effective tools for making citizens’ voices heard by their government.​

A small business owner and thoughtful political observer, keen to return to Tennessee government to a limited, constitutional size. David's foray into state politics began in 2019 as a researcher and lobbyist which morphed into founding Tennessee Freedom Initiative in 2022. He resides in Middle TN with is wife, Lauren.
Kayla Garretson
Legislative Director
Former Legislative Assistant with seven years of legislative research and bill drafting experience. Kayla has worked one-on-one with many of the Representatives and Senators throughout her career, building long lasting relationships that allow her to influence votes in the moment of decision-making.
Nawelle Noor
Research Analyst / Treasurer
A current law student at Liberty University and former Legislative Assistant in the TN House of Representatives with deep experience in the legislative and lobbying processes. Previously involved in a number of state-level campaigns and a federal senate campaign in Alabama.​
